Before & After School Care

Our day care transportation partnerships support working families with safe, reliable options.

  • Transportation to and from Horizon (Southside and East locations), Small Scholars, Little Hearts, Helping Hands, Fundamental Learning, Lorain UMADAOP, Kids R Us, Future Generations, and Mrs. Hunter’s Precious Angels (fees may apply)

Empower

Developed by NFL veterans Braxton Miller and DeVier Posey, the EMPOWER After School Program at Lorain Bilingual Academy provides a free, structured environment designed to foster confidence and resilience in youth. By blending academic support with physical activity and character development, the program equips students with essential life skills while ensuring they remain engaged and supported after school hours.

Program Details & Benefits

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM – 6:15 PM
  • Key Activities: Tutoring, homework assistance, physical exercise, eSports, and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL).
  • Core Skills: Self-management, collaboration, critical thinking, and healthy decision-making.
  • Primary Goals: Improving behavior, building emotional intelligence, and enhancing communication.

Family Resources

We provide meaningful wraparound support to help students and families feel prepared and cared for.

  • Family Community Liaison offers coats, hygiene products, and school supplies for students in need
  • El Centro supports social-emotional learning and collaborates with the school on fundraising and programming
  • Lorain County Health & Wellness Partnership provides dental services such as checkups and cleanings
  • Stay in the Game (Cleveland Browns) promotes school attendance and engagement
  • Cavs Crew (Cleveland Cavaliers) hosts school pep rallies and brings in players to motivate students
  • Lorain City Library hosts monthly student visits, including middle school essay-writing workshops

Food Services

Nutritious meals are served daily, with free breakfast and lunch provided to all enrolled students.


Tutoring, Saturday School & Summer Programs

We offer academic support both in and out of school to help students reach their goals.

  • Free afterschool tutoring available Wednesdays and Thursdays, January through April, for Grades 2–8
  • 21st Century Grant provides tutoring and enrichment activities for middle school students at Horizon
  • Kindergarten Readiness Camp prepares our youngest learners for school success

Transportation

We coordinate with local districts to provide yellow bus transportation based on residence and eligibility.

  • Lorain City School District: Yellow bus service available for students in Grades K–8 who live more than 2 miles from campus. Families must complete a transportation request form and provide proof of residence.
  • Elyria City School District: Yellow bus service available for Grades K–8 students who live 1 mile or more from campus. Families must complete a transportation request form and provide proof of residence.
